Barry, Bette and Broadway
September 30 - October 30
Bell bottoms and disco balls may have gone out of style, but the classic songs of Barry, Bette, and 1970s Broadway will live forever. This intimate revue opens with a set devoted to the Divine Miss M, with hits from her early recordings (“Chapel of Love,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Big Noise From Winnetka”) plus a selection of her signature songs (“The Rose,” “From a Distance,” “Wind Beneath My Wings”). The first act’s second half explores the influence of pop music on Broadway musicals of the 70s with “Millwork” (written by James Taylor for WORKING), “Anthem” and “I Know Him So Well” (from CHESS, written by members of ABBA), and “Corner of the Sky” (from PIPPIN). The second act pays homage to quintessential 1970s soft rock star Barry Manilow, featuring hits “Could It Be Magic,” “Mandy,” “Can’t Smile Without You,” “One Voice,” “I Write the Songs,” and more. Featuring vocalists Cindy Baker, Patrick Beasley, Ashley Pankow, and J. Kent Barnhart (also performing as pianist and emcee), with support from drummer Ken Remmert and bassist Brian Wilson, this cabaret tribute of 28 hits from the cassette tape era will be too divine to be missed!
