Souvenir June 11 - July 11, 2010
A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins
by Stephen Temperley
Real-life society matron Florence Foster Jenkins' lack of musical skill was exceeded only by her incredible enthusiasm, passion and flamboyant personality. Despite her terrible singing – some people have said she was the worst singer ever – she entertained thousands. From charity recitals in drawing rooms to a legendary sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall, people flocked to hear and witness "the first lady of the sliding scale."
Souvenir is a touching comedy told through the memories of Jenkins' accompanist, Cosme McMoon. On the 20th anniversary of her death, McMoon recounts his 12-year relationship with the eccentric but caring woman who challenged his ideas of singing and taught him the true meaning of music.
Starring Lindsey McKee as Florence Foster Jenkins and J. Kent Barnhart as Cosme McMoon. Directed by Rick Truman.
